Lately there has been a massive influx of new music released as Summer begins to reach its peak. Genres are melted together and everyone is competing for claiming a summer jam. This week I wanted to share the core songs that I’m rotating through as opposed to sticking to a specific theme of music.

YVONNE — Ty Lorenzo

YVONNE is a blast from the past coming straight from the era of peak 2000s punk/pop/rock. Ty Lorenzo creates a song that can headline a Vans Warped Tour set with intense rhythmic guitar layers and melodies. Power chords are laced with ear crack and built upon head banging drums and cymbals. The song has great breaks of varying guitar melodies and switchups. All in all this song lives within the realm of Linkin Park and Good Charlotte as a great nostalgic outlet in 2022.

Bad Habit — Steve Lacy

Immediately the mellow guitar loop is captivating and melts with Steve Lacy’s laid back vocal delivery. Lacy is beyond smooth and electric on this track as he lets his vocals shine with varying flows and patterns. 80s synths are steadily placed throughout the song creating a floating like listening experience. The instrumental takes a backseat towards the final leg as Lacy sings over raw guitar strums and low-key percussion. The entire song is a low-key energy banger.

xXXi_wud_nvrstøp_ÜXXx (99jakes remix) — 100 gecs

While this song from 100 gecs is anything but new, now aging two years old, its a high energy EDM banger that fits into the trends of 2022. The 99jakes remix is infused with hyperpop, EDM, and house that would perfeclt set the scene at a summer festival. Varying switchups and pauses through the song continue to heighten the energy and intensity it presents. A cauldron creation of glitchy house and EDM gives something new to focus on each listen — all encompassing the On Repeat effect of the song.

I’D GIVE IT ALL UP — Brevin Kim

I highly enjoyed Brevin Kim’s debut album Pain Muesum released just months ago — a great infusion of electronic pop, riveting bass lines, and sticky melodies. I’D GIVE IT ALL UP is the duo’s first single release since the album — and it goes. Sticking to their past themes of genre infusion, Brevin Kim engineers an influx of segmented song aspects that perfeclty blend together. I’m infatuated with the blaring drums and glitchy vocals. Loads of vocal and instrumental breaks and isolation creates a more dimensional song offering a lot on each listen.
